A company can and should have a defined hiring model. The most important criteria to live up to in that area is time frame. An extended time frame is responsible for losing more desirable candidates than any other two reasons combined. Most important, even if your time frames are poor, is to set the proper expectations with prospective hires regarding next steps and to live up to the timelines that are committed. The objective of a hiring process is to have every candidate that you select want to select you as well. If that isn’t happening then your interview model is flawed. Extended timelines are the most controllable activity to maintain a quality hiring brand. Ideal Time Frames are 2-3 weeks for local market hires and 4 weeks for relocation candidates. Time to hire has extended by 10 days since 2010 in the US. This is a phenomenon that needs to be managed for companies that want to be recognized as best in class for hiring.
