Is hiring so different from building a sports team? You want to know someone can do the job, but they also must connect with their coach, align with the vision of the Organization, and perform in a way that makes them a healthy addition.
Bridgeway Hiring Tip #3- Find an ACE: Soft Skills that make a team player
ACE is an acronym for:
- Accountability
- Coachability
- Enthusiasm
It’s invaluable to add these measurements to your interview vetting model. Here are three questions you can ask to assess accountability. Grade each answer 0-5. Anyone that scores below a 5 in any area should require further evaluation or a decision to pass.
Accountability
- Tell me about a situation where you made a mistake at work. How did you handle it and what did you do to correct it?
- Purpose: To understand how the candidate deals with errors and their approach to accountability and improvement.
- If you were assigned a task that required collaboration with a team member who was not performing their part, how would you address this issue to maintain accountability for the project’s success?
- Purpose: To assess conflict resolution skills and the ability to hold others accountable while maintaining team dynamics.
- What does accountability mean to you in the workplace, and how do you embody this value in your daily tasks?
- Purpose: To understand the candidate’s personal philosophy on accountability and how it aligns with their work ethic.
To keep the length of this manageable, we’ve included only Accountability. If you’d like to see our preferred questions for Coachability and Enthusiasm, please send us an email (info@b-way.com) with the subject line “Coachability and Enthusiasm?” and we’ll share those with you.
